I decided to spend a few more bucks and get this instead of the cheaper ones for sale. I’m so glad I did. This one reads faster and automatically shuts down when you fold the probe into the handle. It is also nicely packaged with spare (button) batteries. No more cheapies (that last a few months) for me!

It does exactly what it says; it’s an accurate (i tested with an ice bath and with boiling water) and fast. Having it sit at room temp (~28C) and then putting it in to check on say a custard (~76C) took only about 1 – 1.5s (didn’t time it though, this is anecdotal). Loving it so far, it’s a no brainer upgrade from my previous generic thermometer that took forever to get a reading. The backlight was more handy than I anticipated too, I think it’s a very nice feature to have. I can’t speak for the durability since I’ve only had it for a while but I’ll update this if anything breaks.

If you want not to dry out pork or chicken the only way is to take its temp. I have had several instant read thermometers. This destine is the best one so far seems rugged enough to endure repeated use and deliver accurate temps. In the past, I have had an issue with the sensor lasting and I do have that worry with this unit.
