In the ProTemp S1 mounting arrangement supplied with this spring, it maintains tension between the underside of the grill lid and the locking nut. It helps hold the assembly in place while cushioning the ceramic against rigid pressure. Keep the supplied mounting parts in the arrangement specified for your Base and grill. If the assembly remains loose, send Customer Support photos of the installation and your grill model before removing parts or tightening it further.
